Building the world we want to live in, one studio, community, and city at a time.

Our Commitment to Creativity and Community

At Workshop Studios, our values guide everything we do. We commit to fostering creativity, community, and sustainability within a supportive environment. Our mission empowers artists and individuals from all backgrounds, ensuring everyone feels welcome and inspired. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of art and culture, we remain steadfast in upholding the Workshop Studios values that drive our work, shape our partnerships, and define the vibrant community we are proud to be part of.

Inclusivity

Whoever you are and wherever you come from, we want you to feel that this space is for you. Our studio’s design fosters wellness through plants and natural light while balancing private and open areas. Additionally, our policies shape Workshop’s culture and programming, allowing us to cultivate a safe and inspiring environment for everyone.

We celebrate and welcome a diverse range of ages, races, socio-economic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities as we build an unpretentious creative community in Calgary.

Our safer space policy applies to everyone who enters our space or engages with our community and services. You can download it here:

Sustainability

Our approach to sustainability is holistic. We understand that Workshop Studios’ impact on the world relies not only on environmental concerns but also on our viability as a business and the health of our broader community.

To achieve this, we structure our studio to be financially self-sustaining. Profits from our classroom and event spaces help subsidize artists’ rent and provide valuable employment opportunities. We take pride in supporting local economic development and empowering female-run businesses.

Furthermore, we are committed to consistently reducing our environmental impact. This includes offsetting our carbon footprint, supporting small-scale food production and beekeeping in our outdoor spaces, advocating for a ban on single-use plastics, and striving to reduce and recycle waste whenever possible.

Empowerment

Each creative individual possesses a unique practice and vision. Our mandate is to nurture their artistic growth and support small business development by providing affordable space and essential tools for their journeys.

To achieve this, we continuously invest in our facility and equipment. We actively promote Workshop artists through social media, local markets, and festivals. We also host free studio visits with notable artists and curators, facilitate peer reviews, and welcome local and international artists to our free artist-in-residence studio. Additionally, we share valuable opportunities, including calls for gallery show applications and commission inquiries.

Optimism

We recognize that our goals and aspirations are ambitious, and the values driving our work don’t always create the easiest path forward. However, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are committed to growing and investing in Workshop Studios, believing in the community and momentum around us. Moreover, we see challenges as opportunities and embrace the unexpected.

Community Partnerships

n Calgary, there is a wealth of meaningful work being done in the realms of art, culture, and community building. We actively embrace opportunities to serve diverse audiences by partnering with a variety of established local organizations and businesses, including The Esker Foundation, The Calgary Humane Society, Market Collective, VivianeArt, Plant, and the Gumisistiy Tsuut’ina Youth Art Program.
