Come explore Calgary’s urban wildlands, make art, make friends, and get your hands dirty in this week-long, youth day camp led by Plein Air Outdoor Arts.
This week-long, inner-city day camp has participants wandering through the urban wilds in search of a natural muse. Through drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture, and performance, we observe and interact with the ecology around us.
During the week we visit art galleries, studios, and public works to sharpen our expressive skills. We make up games, dip into swimming holes, climb on things, ride our bikes, and cloud gaze to stoke our curiosity and deepen our bond with the wild, wonderful world. Taking advantage of Workshop Studios’ ceramic facility, we’ll also try our hand at throwing clay on the wheel. Campers will create their own one-of-a-kind ceramic artwork!
We invite youths aged 8-14 yrs to participate and are open to exceptions!
Base camp for the week is the beautiful yard and garden here at Workshop Studios.

Plein Art Outdoor Arts is a nature-based art camp for 8-14 year old humans. Beginning in the summer of 2019, we will be leading a series of art camps based out of Workshop Studios, a vibrant arts hub located in Inglewood. Led by artist and teacher Nikki Martens, Artist Tom Brown alongside collaborators Lane Shordee, local artist extraordinaire, and Environmental Educator Monica Gehrig, our camp offers the opportunity to create art in nature guided by professional Educators and Artists.
