As we contend with COVID-19, Workshop Studios extends the following care and remains committed to the wellness of our community.
Announcing: Work-Stop Workshops
Hand building at home with live video instruction
Beginning Monday, March 30th at 2pm
This newly-imagined series of workshops includes clay delivery, tool kits, and pickup of finished work to be fired. Ground yourself in creative practice and expand your community while learning basic hand-building techniques from home. Over the course of five two-hour sessions, shared live via Zoom, one of our talented instructors will guide you as you pinch, coil, roll, sculpt, and carve objects such as bowls, hanging plant pots, serving dishes, vases, wall hangings, mugs, cups, and small sculptures. Registration is now live!
COVID-19 – Class Cancelations
March 18, 2020
Edited March 20, 2020
Dear Workshop Participants,
In an effort to keep you, our staff, our members and studio tenants safe, we are cancelling all in-session and future workshops, private lessons, Date Nights, events and photo studio bookings held at our facility immediately. We have developed online hand-building classes and they are now available on our website.
Our modified cancellation policy
All participants of in-session workshops held at our facility will receive a prorated credit toward future Workshops. (Ex: If you’ll miss 40% of your Workshop, you’ll receive 40% off your next one).
If you have already cancelled your in-session workshop, your credit will apply from the date of cancellation. If you did not cancel your class, your credit will cover all remaining classes as of, and including, March 17th. All participants of cancelled in-session workshops will receive an additional free bag of clay when signing up for a new class.
All participants in future workshops, private classes, and Date Nights hosted at our facility have the choice to receive either a credit (in full) towards a future Workshop, Date Night, or Private Class or a full refund.
Access to Workshop Studios
With a heavy heart, we are limiting all access to Workshop Studios to studio tenants, ceramic members and staff of Workshop Studios as of March 18th. Please do not come to Workshop Studios for any reason until further notice. If you have any valuables at Workshop Studios, please email us and we will arrange a pick-up or a drop-off, depending on the circumstance.
Work in Progress
All greenware work in progress that is trimmed will be bisque fired and stored for future glazing in either a future class or a regularly scheduled glaze make-up session.
All greenware work that is not trimmed will be recycled. Once we re-open our doors, we will offer one free bag of clay to anyone affected by this decision. This has been a very difficult decision as we know you have spent a lot of time working on these pieces. However, the last thing we want to encourage is for people to rush back to the studio to trim their work. This would be counterproductive in our efforts to limit attendance at the studio.
Resources for physical and mental health
We realize there has been an overwhelming amount of media attention with regards to COVID-19 and that a lot of fear and anxiety is being felt by many members of our community. We hope that the following resources can help guide anyone experiencing these feelings:
- Mental Health Europe (MHE) Coronavirus: 8 ways to look after your mental health (which also contains many more links to amazing resources!).
- World Health Organisation (WHO) – Q&A on mental health (40 mins)
- Psychologists’ Association of Alberta – Psychological Coping during a Pandemic
- Coronavirus and your wellbeing (from MIND, a mental health charity in the UK)
- A graph comparing symptoms of COVID-19, the common cold, the flu, and allergies (compiled with information from CDC, WHO, American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology).
We want to sincerely thank you all for your support and understanding throughout this difficult time. Workshop Studios supports over 40 independent creatives and businesses every year and this wouldn’t be possible without you. Our community has grown over the last three years more than we could have ever imagined and we are excited for the day when we can all be creative together again.
If you have any questions or concerns
We are here for you. The phone and inbox are open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12-4 pm. Please feel invited to reach out as needed.
Take care and stay warm,
The Workshop Team
